So for all of you other commuters out there, this one is for you. I work in a quaint little city, some of you might be familiar with it- Park City, Utah. Home of the Sundance film festival and much of the 2002 winter Olympic games. However, due to the fact that the only people that can actually afford to live here, don't. They have their second and third homes here that they visit occasionally and rent out to tourists the majority of the time. So, for the rest of us that have to keep the city running, we live in smaller, cheaper housing about twenty or so miles away. There are a few small cities in close proximity, and I live in Heber City. It's a beautiful, small valley just south of Park City. I love being able to be in the city all day and work with the people in the area, but it feels so good to go home at night to my cute little cozy house with my husband and my dog. I feel safe there, and it's home sweet home.
My commute to work has been about a twenty minute drive, up until a few days ago. All of the locals know the shortcuts, and we all take them. Then one day the city went and took those privileges away from us. Everyday when I would drive into the city, I would turn into a residential area and take the back roads. That is until they put up big signs that said, "NO LEFT HAND TURN 7-9 AM." Because of all the smart people that took that route, it spread out traffic. Instead of my twenty minute enjoyable ride to work, it's now a HOUR LONG COMMUTE! It takes me fifteen minutes alone to exit the freeway and get down the off ramp. There is no other road to take unless I go all the way around the back of the city, which would probably take longer. Not to mention a few extra bucks in gas money. And being a newlywed of two months, we don't exactly have the bucks to be spendin. In order to get to my job on time, with an HOUR commute, I would have to leave my house at 7:15 AM. Far too early for me, no thanks!
Well, I'm not quite sure what to do about the situation, but I feel better now. Let me know if you have any ideas, I'm pretty much open to anything at this point.
I hope your glass of The House Whine did you well today.
